Youth Shelters provide emergency care for young individuals that find themselves without a home and who desperately need a place to stay. Youth shelters are open to both male and females, usually between the ages of 16-24. Not only can young people come to these youth shelters if they find themselves without a roof over their head, but these shelters also often provide additional services to these individuals to help them get back on their feet and on the road to independent living. Sometimes, these youth shelters offer training programs and educational programs to help them find their path. Sometimes, it is very difficult for young people to see that there is a way out of homelessness and that they can do something about their situation. Many young people, when faced with a difficult situation, turn to drugs or crime because they believe it is the only answer to their problems. However, with youth shelters, they are able to stay in a safe place and also participate in services that will benefit them in the short term, as well as in the long run.

There are many youth shelters in America and because of studies published by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, it is becoming apparent that there should be more youth shelters in place. Homelessness is a dire problem today and without the proper shelters, these individuals will not get the help that they need and want in order to help them turn their life around.
